What is the Pupil Premium Subsidy?
The Pupil Premium subsidy provides additional funding to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils in publicly funded schools. Its purpose is to ensure that no child is left behind and that children can develop to their fullest potential. This academic year the Pupil Premium allocation was £1345 for pupils in Reception up until Year 6.
It’s allocated for schools to:
- improve the academic outcomes of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities
- close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers across the country
How can I find out if my child is entitled to funding?
Those eligible for the Pupil Premium are any child who has received Free School Meals over the past 6 years; children who are cared for or those adopted from care; and children whose parents are in the armed forces. You can check online using the London Grid for Learning website https://pps.lgfl.org.uk/ . This is quick and easy providing an immediate Yes or No answer.
Your child may be able to get free school meals if you receive any of the following:
• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Floreat Wandsworth Priamry School receives funding for each disadvantaged pupil and uses the funding flexibly, in the best interests of each eligible pupils. GLF leaders draw upon an evidence based approach to apply a ‘tiered’ approach to delivering their pupil premium strategy.
Tier 1: Improving teaching
Schools arrange training and professional development for all their staff to improve the impact of teaching and learning for pupils.
Tier 2: Academic support
Schools should decide on the main issues stopping their pupils from succeeding at school and use the pupil premium to buy extra help.
Tier 3: Wider approaches
This may include non-academic use of the pupil premium such as:
- school breakfast clubs
- music lessons for disadvantaged pupils
- help with the cost of educational trips or visits
- speech and language therapy
- cost of purchasing uniform
Schools may find using the pupil premium in this way helps to:
- increase pupils’ confidence and resilience
- encourage pupils to be more aspirational
- benefit non-eligible pupils

We are always on the lookout for new ways to put the funding to the best possible use and work closely with parents and the community to achieve this.

Leaders plan the use of the grant to support children as they pass through the whole school to the next stage of their education.
We do this by aligning our Pupil Premium strategy with our wider school improvement planning.

Pupil Premium funding at Floreat Wandsworth Primary School is used primarily to accelerate the progress for eligible children, through the planning and delivery of a range of enhanced and personalised learning experiences and interventions. At Floreat Wandsworth Primary School we have 22% of children who are entitled to Pupil Premium funding.
We regularly review our Pupil Premium initiatives to ensure they are having a positive impact. Each year we plan priorities for this year’s expenditure based on the cohort of eligible children.
Funding is allocated to the school based on an annual basis. It is important that if you think your child is eligible for pupil premium support, you must contact the school office for more information. Individual requests for financial support for school-based activities are considered by the Headteacher. Requests can be made via the school office.
